Packing and no morning nap

So we have three days and counting until we move. We have most of the things packed except for the kitchen and a few odds and ends (very few). And yes David helped pack some things before he left, what a great husband. Well for some reason Lilly refused to take her morning nap even though we tried twice and is driving me crazy. So now we are having a quick lunch and then back to bed for another attempt at the nap (cross your fingers). Here are the boxes so far. It doesn't seem like much in the pictures but in real life it seems like more in our small space. Well this will probably be my last post until we get in the house and unpacked a little.

How I made my wreath

Thanks for the comments on my wreath. A couple of you wanted to know how I did it. The first reason I decided to do the project is because I got a wreath at the good will really cheap and secondly I got the foliage and etc on sale. Otherwise this project would be more expansive to make than to buy. But if you look at the fact that you change the look of your wreath without buying a new one that's a deal too.

The first part was trying to decide what I wanted the wreath to look like. I wanted a wreath that would look good for fall and winter (a lot easier on the budget). So I knew that I wanted some evergreen looking foliage. I wanted some red (a Christmas color) and I wanted some either yellow or orange for that fall feel. Well I thought I knew what I wanted but it was a lot harder picking it out. When it comes to picking things out I think you just have to hold them together agaisnt each other to see it they match. You just have to pick up every shade of color you were thinking of and some you weren't thinking of until it looks like it blends. When I got it home I first started with my base. I just put in one green piece weaving the stem part through the wreath. Then I took a second piece and laid it down on top where I thought it should lay in relation to the first. When it comes to this I was just guessing and it really is personal preference depending on how thick you want it, how many other things you have to add and your budget. Once I had all of the green in I looked at my other items and laid them down in an alternating pattern that I thougt looked good, trying to space them as best I could (its not perfect and I think that I will do a better job next time). Once I figured out in what pattern to do it I just had to start spacing and weaving.

The other thing that I'm still not quite sure about is how the placement of each piece on the wreath effects the look. A wreath is 3D with an the ability to place something closer to the inside or farther to the outside. And depending on the placement weather closer in or farther out results in different looks. Basically I just followed my instincts, made a few mistakes, took some stuff back, wasn't afraid to try, and did the best I could. Pumpkins in the Park

Last Tuesday Lilly and I went with some friends to the Dallas Arboretum. They had the whole place covered with pumpkins. I mean from the moment you come in there are pumpkins lining the paths everywhere. Pumpkins of different sizes colors and names. They even had a pumpkin display of all the different varieties. Did you know there is a watermelon pumpkin? The kids had fun as there was an array of activities to do. Crafts, face painting, petting zoo, hay maze (bales of hay stacked on top of each other), a pumpkin house, and tons more. Apparently the arboretum does something for each season and holiday. Yea for Me

Ok this is my chance to boast my crafty skills that I like to pretend that I have. A couple of weeks ago I found this enormous wreath at the good will store. I had been thinking of getting one for our new home. And lo and behold there it was and only $7! Granted it had some ugly stuff on it but its beauty was hidden underneath. So today I decided to go and get some new fake floral stuff and weave it into the wreath. Hobby Lobby was having a sale so that worked out. After spending an hour going up and down the same 2 isles I finally made a decision and realized I could take it back if it didn't work, or if I had extras. First I decided on a design plan/strategy, then chaged it a couple of times. Given the fact that I had no idea which floral pieces to get and no idea of what order to do things in the weaving, I think it turned out pretty good. Of course the picture doesn't do it justice (or maybe it just looks better to me in real life because I worked hard on it). And that is the end of my crafty adventure.

Cute enough to model

One night while David was surfing the internet he found an ad for a baby Gap model. He was mentioned entering Lilly in and was ready to send off a picture. I thought why not. In my eyes she is so cute and other people have commented that she looks like a movie star (seriously). However I didn't think we had any good photos to send. So, since then I have to tried to develop my photographic skills in taking pictures of Lilly. Unfotunately, she is too fast for the camera and I don't have any pictures of her looking straight at the camera. Yet I did think these pictures came out pretty good. If anyone has good suggestions on taking kid pictures please post a comment.

Pizza, Bowling and a Movie

On a Monday a week ago we went to look at the house and it was getting late so we went out to eat. It's this great pizza buffet place called gatti town that has a huge room full of games of sorts and for all ages and it also has a huge movie theater room with tables and chairs and two large screens. And it just so happens that moms eat free on Monday-cool. So I took a couple of pictures of Lilly enjoying bowling and riding a race horse.

We were so excited to finally see the kitchen and it looks great. I was so worried about the countertops and cabinets matching- but they go together well. You really can't tell from the pictures but it does look really good. And the tile matches so well. I don't if I will be able to wait until November 1. Until then I guess I can plan the decor and find boxes for packing.
